I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina. I am also board certified as a Nationally Certified Counselor. I have my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Appalachian State University and my Master's of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and also Professional Counseling from Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia. See my Links page if you would like to see more about the schools I attended or my Counseling Degree.
My clinical experience includes counseling adolescents, adults, couples and families. I have expertise in counseling the areas of depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, social anxiety and panic, grief and loss, trauma, abuse and women's issues. I provide individual counseling, couples therapy and family counseling. I also offer expertise in Christian Counseling for those who desire to incorporate their faith into counseling or for those who have questions about their beliefs.
I began my professional counseling experience in June 2005 where I counseled for almost 2 years as an individual and group therapist in North Georgia at a Community Mental Health Center. I was a counselor working with adults experiencing a wide range of DSM diagnoses. In this setting I, as a counselor, worked as part of a team alongside psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, community support professionals and other counselors.
I moved to Raleigh in April of 2007 and then counseled until March 2009 at a Residential Group Home, School and Counseling Center outside of Raleigh for hurting teenage girls. There I was an individual counselor, marriage counselor, family counselor and group counselor working to restore the emotional and relational struggles experienced by the teenagers and their families. In my counseling there, I worked with teenagers experiencing depression, self mutilation (cutting), anxiety, panic, childhood trauma, abuse and grief.
I was a counselor at a local Raleigh Counseling Center from December 2008 through August 2010 where I worked as an individual counselor as well as a marriage and family counselor. In August 2010, I ventured into my own Private Practice in North Raleigh where I am now counseling adults and adolescents!
I greatly enjoy being a therapist and I have been passionate about the counseling process since college. Graduate school was an opportunity to focus my passion and interest into Marriage and Family Therapy. I have loved being in the Raleigh area and love helping clients connect with their local Raleigh community.
I enjoy counseling individuals, families and couples in their relationship struggles so that each person has the chance to grow towards being a healthy individual and so that each family and couple have the opportunity to grow into a healthy and intimate relationship.
I am a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina. I also hold a membership in the American Counseling Association. You can read more about these organizations on their web sites listed on my Links page.
I live in Raleigh with my husband Ryan. We like to take advantage of the great food and events that Downtown Raleigh has to offer and often venture out to First Friday! We enjoy strolling through the Raleigh Farmers' Market to pick up some quality local food and ingredients. Also we like to see what is at the local Raleigh museums such as the North Carolina Museum of Art; we frequent the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Museum of History whenever we have our niece and nephew as weekend visitors!
